2015 – 2024
(object; 71 x 51 x 13 cm; acrylic plates; circannually decayed and dried leafs of an amorphophallus konjak/ voodoo lily)
This project is about time and memory. Amorphophallus konjac is a relative of the corpse flower. Because it secretes a clear liquid that drips from the leaves, it is also colloquially known as a “teardrop tree”. Once a year, it sends out a compound leaf, which dies in fall and grows back larger after a period of rest. I collected every leaf each year growing out of the same tuber. After ten years of circannual growth by my side, every leaf grew larger until it began to diminish in size by the year 2021, and in 2024, the last leaf appeared.
